Fundamental Rights and Duties Celebrated at KU, Leh Campus
Satellit Campus Leh celeberated “The Fundamental Rights and Duties” at Leh Campus University of Kashmir. The objective of the programme was to make society aware about their fundamental rights and duties which the constitution of India has guaranteed to them.
The programme was presided over as Chief Guest by Mr. C Phunsog (I.A.S) (Retd) Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Ladakh University. Speaking on this occasion Mr.C. Phunsog stressed that Fundamental Rights of citizens are critically dependent on discharge of Fundamental Duties since both the rights and duties flow from each other. He spoke on the need for every citizen to take his duties towards the nation seriously and urged every citizen to take responsibility for protecting the sovereignty, unity and integrity of the country; promoting harmony; defending and promoting the dignity of women. Mrs. Sargun Shukla, SSP UT of Ladakh, gest of honour, in her lecture enlightened the gathering about the rights and duties in the context of constitution of India. Unless each one of us performs one’s duty, the rights of others cannot be realized.. Mr.Tsering Wangdu Assistant Professor, Political sciences in his lecture said that rights mean freedom wchich are essntial for personal good as well as the good for the community therefore highlihted the need for protection of environment; preserving the rich heritage and culture including promotion of Indian languages; inculcating a strong civic sense; protecting public property and abjuring violence; and striving for excellence The programme was also attended by Mr.Deskyong Namgyal , principal EJM College, the student of Leh campus and women from local Village of Taru and Phyang.
While welcoming the dignitaries Prof. Farooq Ahmad Khan, Rector, Satellite Campus, Leh said that there is a need of such programmes to make aware especially women. He further said that a proper environment for enjoying rights will be created if every citizen performs her duties. “Let us perform our duty to make India mighty” Prof. Farooq Khan thanked Hon’ble Vice Chancellor and Mrs. Sargun Shukla, SSP , Union Territory of Ladakh for gracing the occasion.The programme ended with the vote of thanks extended by Miss.
